Our mission is to use the power of investment, education and collaboration to reduce humankind’s impact on the environment, to improve the quality of life worldwide, and to build profitable, socially responsible businesses.
What We Do
Kyoto Planet strives to lead the movement toward global sustainability using capital, creativity, and philanthropy. We provide avenues and tools for people to focus their resources on effective, practical solutions: powerful financial vehicles to promote clean technology and renewable energy; platforms to encourage consumers and businesses to learn, share and become agents of change; and charitable funds to support research, education and action.
Guiding Principles
You hear it on the news everyday. Global warming is real, and we all need to take immediate action to reduce our impact on the environment. But as crucial as it is for us all as individuals to make changes in our daily habits, the most significant positive impact will come from large-scale collective action, and from a fundamental shift in how the global business community and governments operate.
We believe the most likely and meaningful solutions will be those that leverage the power of investment and free markets to shape public behavior and influence political will. As Paul Hawken wrote, "Business is the only mechanism on the planet today powerful enough to produce the changes necessary to reverse global environmental and social degradation."
At Kyoto Planet, we don’t believe in doomsday scenarios, and are optimistic that we can work together to direct the planet toward a more sustainable future. We are hopeful, but ultimately pragmatic. Raising awareness is fundamental, but ideas alone don’t change the world. What we need is action.

Investment is the key to our collective future. New technologies are our best weapons in the fight against global warming and resource depletion, and the investment decisions we make now to support innovation will have long-term impact on the sustainability of the planet.
Forward-thinking investment can have restorative power, not only by supporting innovative environmental solutions, but also by creating new profitable businesses and industries. Global greening is a necessity, but it is also an exciting, desirable, and profitable path. At Kyoto Planet, we recognize that profitable outcomes are the most likely outcomes. Effective planetary solutions must be environmentally sensitive and socially desirable, but also economically sustainable and operationally viable to really take root and work.
Beyond capital investment, we believe in the need for committed investment of time and energy from citizens to develop new ideas, and to transform the best thinking into meaningful action.
Kyoto Planet is dedicated to dialogue, interaction, and practical thinking, and will support that principle by offering an online venue for community collaboration and education -- to seed conversations, to raise interesting questions, and to promote creative solutions.
